The Player to Professional (P2P) Pipeline Program, created by Dr. Jamaine Ifedi and the team at Empire Dental Group, is dedicated to helping student-athletes recognize that the qualities they develop through sports can become the foundation for lifelong success in their careers, education, and communities.
Serving schools throughout the Charlotte, North Carolina, area, the P2P Pipeline Program combines mentorship, oral health education, and community engagement to support student-athletes both on and off the field.
Empowering Student-Athletes Through Mentorship
At the heart of the P2P Pipeline Program is the belief that young athletes benefit from learning directly from those who have successfully navigated the journey before them. Through partnerships with local high schools, former NCAA Division I athletes return to their communities to mentor the next generation of players.
During these visits, mentors share their personal experiences, discussing the challenges and opportunities that come with competitive athletics while emphasizing the importance of:
- Leadership
- Discipline
- Teamwork
- Resilience
- Accountability
- Preparing for life beyond sports
These conversations encourage student-athletes to think beyond the next game and begin building the mindset and habits that support long-term personal and professional success.
Supporting Athletic Performance Through Oral Health
Protecting an athlete’s smile is an important part of protecting their overall well-being. As part of every P2P Pipeline Program visit, the team at our office provides education about sports-related dental injuries and the importance of wearing properly fitted mouthguards during competition and practice.
To help safeguard student-athletes, the program includes:
- Complimentary digital scans for each team’s offensive and defensive leaders to create custom sports mouthguards.
- Thermoplastic sports mouthguards for all remaining players.
- A dentist-led “boil-and-fit” session that teaches athletes how to properly fit and wear their mouthguards for maximum comfort and protection.
By combining education with preventive care, the program helps reduce the risk of dental injuries while reinforcing healthy habits that can last well beyond an athlete’s playing years.
Investing in the Entire Team
The Player to Professional Pipeline Program extends beyond mentorship and oral health. Empire Dental Group also sponsors each participating team’s first home game meal, creating an opportunity for players, coaches, mentors, and the dental team to connect in a positive and encouraging environment.
These shared experiences strengthen relationships, promote fellowship, and reinforce the program’s commitment to supporting student-athletes both as competitors and as individuals preparing for the future.
